Hi everybody,
I just did a Facebook live where I talked about a few things you should do BEFORE you hire a personal trainer. Here is the video:
Here’s a summary of the video:
One of the first things you need to think about is WHERE you want to work out.
Commercial Gym
- Most gyms like L.A. Fitness, Equinox etc won’t allow you to bring your own trainer. I’d still ask a manager though because sometimes they will make an exception, especially if the trainer is a member as well
Apartment Gym
- If your apartment gym is operated, meaning, they have their own staff, there’s a good chance they won’t allow outside trainers. If they don’t have the gym staffed it’s usually pretty easy to bring your own trainer. Your apartment complex might require some paperwork like license, CPR/First Aid course, driver’s license, and insurance from your trainer. Simply ask management and they should be able to give you all the info you need.
At Home
- I have a lot of clients I train at their home. This is a totally valid option and very convenient. If it is a good idea mostly depends on your goals and the equipment you have available. In some cases, resistance tubes and bands might be enough, in other cases, you might need to invest a bit of money to set up your home gym. Talk to your trainer about your goals and they will be able to tell you which equipment makes the most sense.
Outside
- Training outside (with the ocean as your background – that’s if you live on the water) sometimes sounds a lot better than it actually is. You have to consider the weather in your area. Do you live in a place where it’s always very hot and humid? Anything other than early mornings might not be a good idea for outside training. Do you live somewhere where it’s always cold and rainy? You might need a backup plan in case the weather doesn’t allow for an outside workout.
Keep an eye out for Part 2 where we will be talking about how to choose the right trainer for you and your goals.
Until then, stay awesome!!
Love,
Jen
